Wellington Ukulele Orchestra Fundraising Single And Tour

The Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra are proud to soon be presenting their version of The Bats' Boogey Man as an online fundraiser for grassroots Christchurch projects.

Boogey Man was written by Bob Scott of legendary Christchurch band The Bats (it features on The Bats' 1991 album Fear of God). The Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra's version came about when Bob taught it to them during intermission at a Dunedin show a couple of years back.

Then when the orchestra was touring Australia just days after the February 2011 earthquake, the lyrics of Boogey Man - "Walk down the street that you used to know..." - struck a chord with homesick Kiwis and concerned Australians. When the WIUO recorded their new EP this year,
they decided Boogey Man was an opportunity to help Christchurch out some more.

Proceeds from online sales of Boogey Man will go to grassroots projects, in particular Lyttelton's Volcano Radio, a volunteer-run, commercial-free community radio station that has been a lifeline for the Lyttelton community and a supporter of NZ music. Volcano Radio's premises and gear were damaged in the February and June earthquakes, plus much of its business sponsorship was wiped out. Consequently, Volcano has been off-air since mid-2011.

Buy Boogey Man now and help Volcano Radio get back on air. The more money Boogey Man raises, the more the WIUO will be able to help out other grassroots projects, too. Boogey for Christchurch, man!

The wildly popular Wellington International Ukulele is an infectious group of talented performers rocking the four-string with a saucy swagger and delicious style, in a charmingly modern take on the old show-band tradition of the 1940s and 50s. Delighting crowds of all ages, the orchestra's signature sound features up to eleven ukuleles, a double bass and a choir of gorgeous voices performing songs that highlight the musical excellence and comic brilliance of "everybody's favourite ukulele orchestra".
